Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
ADHD remains one of the most common diagnoses in pediatric medicine. It can be challenging to determine if you child is affected by ADHD and how to treat it.
Depending on the complexity of the case, including if there is a co-occurring diagnosis, which can occur in 30-60% of the time in pediatric ADHD, your child will benefit from an in-depth evaluation.
The ADHD evaluation at Thomson is a day-long assessment that includes interviews and a series of short, kid-friendly tests that measure all your child's thinking abilities and patterns. Our providers perform the evaluation and prepare a detailed report of the findings for you.
Does your child display any one or more of these behaviors? If so, you may want to consider an evaluation.
- difficulty with organization (e.g., extremely messy room, backpack, locker)
- frequently loses important items (e.g., homework, books, pencils, eyeglasses)
- poor grades due to failing to turn in completed homework
- trouble following multistep instructions
- difficulty developing friendships due to hyperactivity/impulsivity
- easily distracted
- fidgety
- excessive talking
Learning Disorders
Is your child struggling academically? No matter what the age, early diagnosis and intervention can help. The best hope we have of treating any kind of learning disorder is catching it early. Earlier diagnosis allows for interventions before academic problems get worse. Our doctors are available to attend school meetings and advocate for effective accommodations to make sure your child gets the help needed. If your child's doctor recommends an evaluation for a reading or math disorder, schedule an appointment right away.
Dyslexia & Reading Disorders
What exactly is dyslexia and could your child have it?
In relation to problems with reading, Dyslexia is a type of learning disorder where a person has difficulty identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words. It is a common learning disability in children and can also be called a specific reading disability. Even children with high intelligence can be diagnosed with dyslexia.
Your child may have dyslexia if he/she displays one or more of the following symptoms.

School Age Children

Thomson works with many area physicians and therapists to help patients who potentially have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our neuropsychological evaluation includes assessment, diagnosis, and recommendations to help your child achieve his/her highest level of functioning.
