Cognitive Therapy
Therapeutic Services for Adults & Children
Therapeutic Services for Adults & Children
After a full neuropsychological evaluation, your doctor will determine if cognitive therapy is recommended. Treatment sessions are typically one hour a week and last 6-12 weeks based on your needs.
Our Approach to Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy
Our 8-12 week program is different than traditional therapy. Rather than focusing on the emotional approach, we dig into the the cognitive side of the issue.
Our programs are tailored to the individual, depending on age and diagnosis. Once our neuropsychologists have determined a change in thinking has occurred, whether it be an acquired change or a developmental change, we present the details of our suggested therapy.
Diagnoses that can cause these changes include:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- Stroke
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Loss of Memory
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
The Thomson 3 Phase Program
Optimize Organizational Systems
Our patients have either lost, damaged or are intrinsically lacking the ability to organize their thoughts. Our therapists work on retrospective memory and prospective planning skills to help patients develop critical organizational thinking tools.
Goals and Expectations
During this phase, patients work on aligning their abilities with their goals and expectations. Often, patients come to us that have plateaued in their recovery. This is the phase of therapy that addresses why this has occurred and helps them move past it. New goals are created and often this is when real change begins to occur.
Memory & Behavioral Strategies
Finally, our therapists work with patient to improve strategies that address issues such as memory, impulsiveness, inappropriate emotional responses and other issues that have impacted the life of the patient.
Every therapy program is different depending on the age and needs of our patients. Not available at every location.
